The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential flag bearer, Nathan James Nandala Mafabi, has promised sweeping reforms to rebuild Uganda’s economy, improve education, and combat corruption if elected in the 2026 general elections.
Speaking to a large crowd at Cesia Playground in Adjumani Town Council, Mafabi claimed he is the only candidate among the eight presidential contenders who truly understands Uganda’s economy and tax policy.
He accused the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) government of failing to lift Ugandans out of poverty despite nearly four decades in power.
“Every village will receive Shs100 million each year for the next five years to support local development and poverty alleviation,” Mafabi said.
“Teachers will be well-paid, provided with accommodation, and all school children will study for free from primary to university. We shall also provide free meals to end school dropouts caused by hunger.”
Mafabi further pledged to revive cooperative movements and establish cooperative banks offering interest-free loans to farmers, youth, and small business owners.
He also promised better-equipped health facilities and incentives to retain skilled health workers in the country.
Hassan Kaps Fungaroo, FDC Deputy President for Northern Uganda, welcomed Mafabi to Adjumani, saying the country needs “fresh blood and new ideas” after decades of President Museveni’s leadership.
“The FDC’s economic recovery plan focuses on strengthening local production, improving service delivery, and reducing inequality,” Fungaroo said.
Mafabi also pledged to support boda-boda operators with motorcycles valued at Shs2 million payable over five years and assured residents that his government would compensate war victims, promote coffee production, and encourage peaceful coexistence with business communities from other regions.
“Leaders who overstay in power keep their people poor and uneducated,” Mafabi said. “It’s time to restore dignity and build a Uganda that works for everyone.”
He also promised to allocate Shs10 trillion for tarmacking key road networks across the country within five years.
The rally in Adjumani drew hundreds of supporters and marked another major stop on Mafabi’s nationwide campaign trail as he seeks to unseat the long-serving NRM government in 2026.
